Chartreuse is a colour halfway between green and yellow that was named because of its resemblance to the green colour of one of the french liqueurs called green chartreuse, introduced in 1764.
The term chartreuse is defined by the oxford english dictionary as: “a shade of colour; a pale apple green”. In Dry Goods Reporter (1905), it is noted “chartreuse greens are among the colours hardest of all to combine artistically, and yet with the new popular blue are charming.”
Chartreuse green was codified to refer to this brighter colour when the X11 colors were formulated in 1987; by the early 1990s, they became known as the X11 web colors. Chartreuse is the colour precisely halfway between green and yellow. It is one of the tertiary colours of the HSV Color Wheel, also known as the RGB Color Wheel.
I think of design to be simple, yet complex … like the colour chartreuse. I love flowers and I love design, so why not combine the two? chartreuse design is the marriage between floristry and design. Blooming images to make others green with envy.
